Mission Statement

At North Riverside, we work together to ENSURE that every student and every staff member experiences SUCCESS.

Public schools face many challenges, and most low-income schools are low performing.

At North Riverside Elementary, we recognize that to break the low-performance trend, we must work together in collaboration among ourselves and with parents, district leaders, and our community to achieve an academic BREAKTHROUGH.

The word ENSURE is a promise, a guarantee. At the heart of our mission is a commitment to our students and staff members to create the conditions necessary for everyone to experience SUCCESS.

Metrics for Success

North Riverside will know it is an ELITE School when its IMPACT score is 55 or above.

The only way to have an IMPACT on our students, is for every staff member to work with intentionality and a sense of urgency. Going through the motions does NOT produce an academic breakthrough in low socio-economic schools.

Individual teacher IMPACT is measurable. A grade level's IMPACT is measurable. A school's IMPACT is also measurable. The Texas Education Agency rates IMPACT using academic performance and student growth metrics.

The calculation of impact scores is an equation that assigns incremental values based on student academic performance or growth from one performance band to the next. These bands are aligned across assessments such as STAAR, MAP, and iSTATION.

In calculating impact based on academic achievement, students are given a score of 1 if they perform at the APPROACHES level, a score of 2 if they perform at the MEETS level, and a score of 3 if they perform at the MASTERS level on their STAAR tests. Similarly, students receive the same scores if they are Tier 2, Tier 1, or E respectively on their MAP assessments. STAAR and MAP are summative assessments that are monitored about 3 times per year.

Impact based on academic growth is calculated using iSTATION by assigning a score of 1 if they have TYPICAL growth (an increase of 84-105 points per school year), a score of 2 if they have an ABOVE AVERAGE growth (an increase of 106-131 points per school year), and a score of 3 if they have an ACCELERATED growth (an increase of 132 points or more per school year). This total growth is calculated once a year in May, but monitored monthly.

Our Why

We believe that our purpose and duty as public servants is to give every child in our school the confidence and the mastery of essential knowledge and skills to have a successful and bright future, and that we have the ability to defy the statistics of low-income schools.
